Choose Your Pathway (30–35%)

Candidates select one of three specialized paths to complete their Level III journey. This allows you to focus on the area most relevant to your career.

Portfolio Management

The traditional path. Focuses on public market asset management, including deep dives into Equity and Fixed Income portfolio strategies for institutional and retail funds.

Private Wealth

Designed for those advising high-net-worth individuals. Covers wealth planning, taxes, estate planning, and the unique behavioral biases of private clients.

Private Markets

Focuses on alternative investments from a general partner/limited partner perspective. Includes Private Equity, Private Debt, Real Estate, and Infrastructure.

Ethical and Professional Standards

The final integration. You are evaluated on your ability to apply the Code and Standards to complex organizational and individual scenarios, including GIPS for performance reporting.

Asset Allocation

The most critical decision for any portfolio. Covers Capital Market Expectations (CME), strategic vs. tactical allocation, and the impact of constraints on the optimal portfolio.

Portfolio Construction

How to actually build the portfolio. Includes manager selection, risk budgeting, and the trade-offs between different construction techniques (Factor-based vs. Sector-based).

Derivatives and Risk Management

Using derivatives to modify risk-return profiles. Covers hedging strategies, overlay management, and the use of options to enhance yield or protect downside.

Performance Measurement

Evaluating success. Includes return calculation, benchmarking, and attribution analysis (Brinson model). Did the manager add value through allocation or selection?
