CFA Level II:
The Art of Valuation
Level II is widely considered the most difficult level of the Charter. It shifts from definitions to application, requiring you to value complex assets and businesses through clinical analysis.
Topic Area Weightages
Level II weightages are more balanced across the 'Big Five' topics. Mastery of Equity and FSA is non-negotiable for success.
Application of the Standards to complex vignettes. You are no longer just identifying violations; you are recommending corrective actions and navigating 'grey areas' in professional conduct.
Advanced regression analysis, time-series modelling, and machine learning applications in finance. Includes big data techniques and how to evaluate model strength.
Focuses on currency exchange rate determination, economic growth theories, and the regulatory environment. Includes how central bank policies affect asset prices.
The 'Deep Dive'. Covers inter-corporate investments, post-employment benefits, share-based compensation, and multinational operations (currency translation). Analysis of quality of earnings is paramount.
Focuses on capital structure decisions, dividend policy, and corporate restructuring (M&A). Includes deep analysis of ESG integration in corporate decision-making.
The core of Level II. Covers DDM, Free Cash Flow, Residual Income, and Market-based valuation. You learn to build a full valuation model for any private or public entity.
Advanced bond valuation using spot rates and forward rates. Includes analysis of bonds with embedded options, credit analysis models, and Term Structure theories.
Pricing and valuation of forwards, futures, options, and swaps using the No-Arbitrage principle. Covers Black-Scholes-Merton and Binomial models in depth.
Valuation methods for Real Estate, Private Equity, and Commodities. Includes detailed analysis of PE fund structures and performance attribution.
Covers Active Management, Multifactor Models, and the transition to Level III's focus on IPS and asset allocation strategies for institutions.
Bridging the Gap from
Foundations to Valuation
Level II is where candidates 'hit the wall'. The sheer volume of material and the complexity of vignettes require more than just rote learning. You need the eye of a practitioner.
- Vignette-Based Training: We train you to extract high-yield data from 2-page vignettes.
- Integrated Valuation Labs: Live sessions where we value actual Indian listed companies.
- Advanced FSA Clinics: Mastering the most complex accounting topics (Pensions, M&A).
- Strategic Doubt Clearing: Direct access to CFA Charterholders who have navigated L2 successfully.
"At Level II, the CFA Institute is testing if you can handle the responsibility of valuing a business. Our coaching reflects this — we move from 'what' to 'why' and 'how'."
